Read-A-Thon 'Fall Edition'
The PTA of PS166Q has decided to hold a Read-A-Thon this Fall!
Read-A-Thons actually get your reader excited about reading and it gives friends and family the opportunity to encourage your child to read even more.
Our Read-A-Thon starts Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
About one week before our Read-A-Thon starts we will send home instructions on how to activate your reader's personal page. This is where you will be able to view and record their progress.
We encourage you to activate your reader’s account today by clicking on https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323832323838/1 and following the simple instructions.
We've chosen Read-A-Thon because it will not take much of your time, gives your child a reason to read and helps in the development of stronger reading skills.
We hope EVERYONE participates.
Thanks so much,
Parent Teacher Association of PS166Q
Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day 2024
MEMO: Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day 2024
To: All Staff & Families
From: Ms. Matsas
On November 14, our school and community will be participating for the second year in a row in Ruby Bridges: Walk to School Day. This initiative was started in 2018 by a group of elementary Safety Patrol students in San Francisco, California to commemorate the bravery and courage of Ruby Bridges an icon for the civil rights movement. The goal is to commemorate Ruby’s legacy and take a stand against racism and bullying.
Leading up to this day, teachers will conduct lessons with their students to teach the history behind this event. Students and families are welcome to make signs or hold the poster distributed. On 11/14, we will all wear dark PURPLE!
Meeting points have been set up around the neighborhood of our school, where staff, students and families can meet and walk together to school.
Students MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT AT ALL TIMES until your child goes into school. STUDENTS MAY NOT BE DROPPED OFF AT THESE MEETING POINTS.
Please join us at any of the following locations by 7:30am:
Broadway and 34th Street
35th Avenue and Steinway
33rd Street and 35th Avenue
Crescent St. and 36th Avenue’
Students that ride the bus will get off the bus at Exit 4 and then walk to 35th Avenue to enter the school from Exit 1 as a group so they can participate as well. Staff will lead students off the bus and to the main entrance.
After the students get to school and throughout the day, there will be lessons, read alouds and schoolwide announcements to continue honoring Ruby Bridges and the courageous and powerful role she played in history.
Looking forward to an amazing experience!
Ms. Matsas
